Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families Programs

Programs that Empower

The greatest calamity in our society is the degradation of the family. The National Longitudinal Adolescent Health Study confirms parents are the major reason kids choose not use drugs. Without parental involvement the likelihood of engaging in nearly every risk behavior increases. Parents are the primary role models and teachers. When they are absent for whatever cause the whole family suffers. Since strong effective families influence many societal outcomes, the cornerstone of community development is the foundation of family.

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a research-based parenting program initially designed for families with substance abusing parents and their kids. However, strong families are now widely understood to reduce the risk for many adverse behaviors in children. As a result of its effectiveness to foster better communication, increase understanding, and provide support for high-stress families, we are coordinating with churches and community organizations through ACTS to facilitate and implement this program in our communities. Our goal is to engage families who may be on the brink and minister to them through this program with the expectation of strengthening the family and empowering each family member to do greater works!

Why SFP with ACTS

We recognize within our local soical service agencies there are limited resources. Resources that must be prioitized for the greatest good which leaves the least of us neglected and hopeless. However, in the community Church we are supplied through Christ Jesus. The Lord provides willing hearts and minds to willingly volunteer time, donate money, and give other resources to support and benefit families and our community now and into the future. Through Strengtheing Families Programs in cooperation and collaboration with ACTS churches we aim to bring hope and help to those who need it most.
